Easter Sunday!

The Art of Rejoicing

Ya’ll… we made it… the most intense season of Catholic style celebrating has begun! Alleluia! For the next 50 days, till Pentecost Sunday, we as the Church are in the Easter season! We are called to rejoice in the ending of darkness and the glorious new hope and light of eternal life with Jesus, Who has overcome death. We know that this is the time to be joyful and rejoice in the truth of eternal life. Though, when we look around at the physical situation of our environment, it is obvious that it doesn’t look that different from Lent.

So, my friends, it is up to you to bring what we are celebrating spiritually into the physicality of the world. Where to begin?

First, it is a CELEBRATION, party time, victory laps, a time to have joyful memories, and to fully embrace the joy of the Resurrection; Happy souls all around!

Here are some ideas of how to party Catholic style:

            Decorate your house or room!

Deck it out with colors, images of Jesus and other sacred images, put up those Christmas lights. If you like flowers, put some or a lot around the house. Streamers, balloons, candles, the possibilities for this celebration are limitless! Think birthday or graduation party; you decide how full out you want to go.

            Treat yourself to yummy foods!

Cook a special meal and/or dessert. We have just come out of fasting, so if you can, cook an Easter meal or create some wonderous delish thing for dessert.

            Turn up the tunes!

There are so many great Christian upbeat songs out there, turn on music that the whole family can listen to and enjoy. Or if you or your family are musical, consider putting together a concert of joyful songs. Personal suggestion, the song Celebration by Kool and the Gang, is a great for something like this 😉

            Dress up!

Especially for Easter Sunday, wearing clothes that represent what we are doing can be a big help in getting us in the proper mood.

            Involve family!

Some of our traditional Easter celebration maybe done with relatives who we are not able to be with physically. Set up a FaceTime or a Zoom meeting with those family members and share that time together.

            Want to involve friends?

Send out a Happy Easter text to your friends or DM them! If you want to take it an extra step in being more intentional, write letters or notes to them to send in the mail. (Remember, the Easter season lasts more than one day, so it’s ok if they don’t get the note till a few days after Easter Sunday)

On a more spiritual note…:

pray the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary, reading the Gospel passages of the Resurrection, pray the joy-filled Liturgy of the Hours or spend some time to thank God for this marvelous gift He has given us.

As said before, this season is for 50 days, if you want to spread this stuff out; great idea! Let us all remain in the spirit of why we do this: to rejoice for the glory of God. We love ya’ll so very much!! From our families to yours; Have a Happy Easter Sunday, thriving in the truth that we are the Church!
